Many of the passersby joined in as they walked along. One of the highlights of the evening was a father and child dancing together to Frere Jacques and When You're Happy And You Know It. Special thanks to Mark Bell, Songleader and Jenny Crober, Pianist and to all those who came out to join in the singing. Canada Sings! / Chantons Canada! seeks to give Canadians increased opportunities to sing together in community the songs we all love to sing. Visit the Canada Sings! / Chantons Canada! website at: www.canadasings.ca Special thanks to Street Pianos for providing these wonderful pianos throughout the city which made events such as these a possibility. Bravo!! <!-- image_comment_id: 986 --> CANADA SINGS! / CHANTONS CANADA!

The three main types of traditional dance in St. Lucia are Jwe, Kele and the Kwadril. The Kwadril is the dance depicted by the collaged images on the side of the piano and the lyrics on the front of the piano are from an old folk song titled Nou ka Pasé written in kwéyòl, which translates into “ we are passing by”. Also on the front of the piano are raised, textured lettering that says “ afro-lucian cultural expressions nurtured and preserved”. This text is meant to represent the awareness and resurgence of respect that younger St. Lucians have in regards to these traditions so often lost to modern perspectives. ENJOY!
