Los Angeles City Hall Complex

This piano is designed by Danny Heller and hosted by the City of Los Angeles.

Danny Heller's beautiful piano was the first stop of our morning. This is a video for my song Somebody Else, but it's really also a love letter to Los Angeles. Thanks for making it possible!

Robert Shaw playing the City Hall piano on a scorching, crowded day in downtown LA. This location was perfect (shady and deserted) to end a mini walking tour of the downtown street pianos.

Wind advisory. Big guy can be seen in the back ground was oblivious to the line that had formed, the couple with their arms folded have been waiting for awhile when he reluctantly relinquishes the throne.I did not have a chance to relax into this one. And I was going to lose my film crew if I did not feed her soon. It was getting tense out on the Street Piano Circuit.

It was so nice to find the only other person on the street hammering out a sweet, sweet melody.

This was my view as I exited City Hall on April 23rd. The guy was cranking out Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive!"

Not only did I check out CicLAvia on April 15, but I also got to play my 5th street piano - this one at Los Angeles City Hall East, right off of the CicLAvia route on Main Street. When I arrived, there was a violinist named Mike with a bunch of music books and sheet music. We ended up playing Edith Piaf's "La Vie En Rose" and Barry Manilow's "Can't Smile Without You." He told me he was waiting all day for a piano player to accompany him, complaining that none of the ones who came up to the piano could read music (I'm a bad sightreader, but I can read charts). The CicLAvians who formed a small audience dug it though! And because I'm at City Hall, I played Stevie Wonder's "Living For The City." Also ran into a friend of mine there who brought his family to enjoy CicLAvia.
