Here's a picture of me and Susan Young enjoying ourselves on the pier pianos. I'd met her on the pier the night before when she showed up after a bike ride and we got to talking. She told me she was a singer and guitar player and asked if I would like to play piano while she sang. She did a beautiful rendition of My Funny Valentine and a few other standards. What a magical night.

Eyes closed, sweat dripping down his face, this man was lost in his own music, music he didn't know he could make. Playing like a child, commanding a child's respect, making sounds like elephants stomping and cats meaowing, he lured a random stranger out of the merciful shadows of an old tree on a hot day and inspired him to join in on his harmonica.
