this is Emma Harvey, who had come over from South London with lots of music sheets to play and share while I painted. Here Emma is playing a duet with an italian guy called Fabio Tedde, he says he's travelling the wold playing all te pianos in the Play Me I'm Yours project, this was his 113th (I think he said that), he's going to go around and play them all on Thursday night, starting at Bank at 11.30pm
This guy, didn't get his name, (said he didn't mind me putting up a photo though), said he had brought some music scores to work on the off chance he's get a turn, he politely waited and when asked said yes he did play a little bit but not very well. He then opened his brief case, undid his tie and played beautifully - some classical pieces, some bits of Westside Story and such... So much fun painting while people played...
Spent a very positive friendly Monday in the London sunshine painting this piano and adding layers of green leaves and leafgrowth to the concrete of the city, the ideas of nature taking things back with fresh layers of growth, leaves as street art, music and paint as barrier breakers. Loved all the interaction with the passing tourists, office workers and people from the cafes and shops. Especially like the man in the suit who brought the score to Westside Story to work in his briefcase just in case he got a chance to play, and a man who would only say his name was Derek who came out of his office and shocked his fellow workers by performing and singing a note/word perfect Queen song... and the classical music students from Florida who just happened to be passing, or Fabio Tedde from Italy who's travelling the world trying to play every piano in the Play Me I'm Yours project, he said this was the 113 street piano he's played. And Emma Harvey who came over from South London with bag of sheet music to play and share with others, and the Australians who played and Scottish guy who said he couldn't play much and claimed he was too old and almost out of time to learn and had never had the courage to play in public before who then played some great jazz and loved it and said he's be back for more
I had a great time on Monday painting and chatting and being filmed and interviewed and talking to people I'd probably never interact with if I wasn't out painting a piano in the street, loved it.. excellent day, hope you enjoy the fruits of my day's work...
